The Brown cows spend most of their time on rotating irrigated and non-irrigated pastures, with some time spent climbing hills for uncultivated morsels and winters eating homegrown herbal-grass alfalfa. They receive no concentrates, but do enjoy a little sprouted barley at milking times. For health they get regular doses of homegrown garlic, which prevents illness. All of the cows were either hand raised from 1 week old or born here. They know their names and are treated like pets. All of their food is homegrown and certified organic/certified Biodynamic.

DOT

Beautiful Dot has known everything that she needed to since she was 3 days old.  Gentle, sweet, smart and kind—what more could I ask for?  If only every cow were like her!  The best of her class.

ROSE

Rose used to run out into the parking lot to greet visitors when she was a calf.  She’s now (thankfully) outgrown that but still loves to be the center of attention and is very pushy about receiving all of her rightful scritches.  What a fun and loving cow.

MARIGOLD

The class clown, I often get surprised by Marigold as she travels around the farm and finds herself in places that she shouldn’t be.  Just needing a little more attention than the others, if you tell her to get back where she belongs she’ll go without an escort.

LITTLE DEER

The day she was born she was so big she already looked like a little deer.  I wonder sometimes if I shouldn’t spell her name little dear, she is a precious cartoon character of a cow.  Always happy and mellow, she is the most well adjusted cow in the herd.  A real friend.

GOLDIE

Recently Goldie has almost gotten over not being the number 1 cow at the haypile.  Naturally polled (hornless) in a herd of cows with horns is a tough position to be in.  If she continues to settle down, it might actually be that she can be milked on this farm where co-operation is king.

DOROTHY

Glenda’s first heifer calf, and straight out of Kansas just like her mom.  Sure to be a legend, she’s a very kind and loving girl, a snuggle calf to be sure.

AQUA COW

When Aqua and Arrow came to the farm, they lived in the basement for a couple weeks. Since then, Aqua cow has always been the most favored cow and turned out to be the best cow on the dairy--in every way. A true superhero among cows, the herd leader, and the herdsman's favorite.

VELMA

Velma, one of the girls from Scooby Doo, is a huge, calm, and loving little girl. Because of her size, the other cows look out for her, but inside she's still my little calf. As long as she's getting her way at the hay pile, she's a happy cow.

GLENDA, THE GOOD WITCH OF THE NORTH COW

The baby of the herd, Glenda "Good Witch" is some cow. Every morning she eats my organic apple core and has a little of my organic banana as well. Nicer than nice, better than good, a being to be admired from many perspectives. The pick of the litter.
